Best Time to Visit Keystone
Keystone’s peak seasons occur from January
to March and Late June to early September as well as during the holidays.
During the off-peak seasons, you can usually find better rates on lodging
and occasionally two-for-one entree deals at local restaurants. April provides
great deals on lodging, skiing and dining. April is also known for
great snow conditions. June and September offer peak
conditions for summer recreation. Most summer events and activities
kick off on Memorial Day Weekend and run strong until the end of September.
Keystone tends to have Indian Summers and the weather remains an average
of 70 degrees during the day through September. You can also enjoy
lodging and dining deals in September and early October.
Altitude
Issues in Keystone
Above 8,000 feet, altitude illness affects 20 to 30 percent of
visitors from low elevations to some degree. The first thing most people
notice is a shortness of breath, especially when exercising. In addition,
the heart is likely to beat faster and one may develop nausea, fatigue,
headache, or have difficulty sleeping. If you develop one or more of
these symptoms, you may have Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). If these symptoms
do not subside within a day or two, consult a doctor.
ATM’s/Banks
in Keystone
Visa, MasterCard and American Express cards are widely accepted at the
Keystone Mountain Resort and throughout the villages, in addition to
Traveler’s
Cheques. ATM machines accept most cards for a small fee and are located
at various on-mountain locations and throughout Keystone.
Weather
in Keystone
If you've not spent time in the mountains before,
be aware that weather conditions in Keystone will be a bit different
than what you're used to. In the valleys, and at higher altitudes your
body may behave differently. Dress for cooler temperatures and be
prepared for sudden weather changes.
